Old Palace student claims victory in the Bromley Festival of Music and Speech contest.

It was congratulations all round to Year 7, Old Palace student Ria, who recently took part in the Bromley Festival of Music and Speech.

Ria performed in four categories:

  • The Recital Class (for which she sang “The Wizard” and “Silent Worship”)
  • Songs from the Shows (where she sang “God Help The Outcasts”)
  • Folk Song (where she sang “The Raggle-Taggle Gypsies”)
  • Sacred Song (where she sang “Shepherds”)

Ria won first place in both the Recital and the Folk Song classes, which took place over various dates in March, came third in the Sacred Song class, and got a certificate in the Songs from the Shows class.

Ria commented: “My favourite part was the Recital as the songs were lively and I got to choose a combination of pieces to demonstrate a good range of styles and emotions. My mum and my singing teacher Miss O’Hanlon helped me to prepare and I am really looking forward to doing more festivals in the future.”

Ria sings in Polyphonic and the Old Palace Year 6-8 Choir as well as the Minster Girls’ Choir. She Is pictured here with her medals and trophies.
