Croquet Mayor of Croydon, Yvette Hopley, Whitgift Foundation, Whitgift House, Council, Croydon

Whitgift House summer croquet series kicks off with match against Mayor's team.

Hot on the heels of Britain’s recent sporting successes, Whitgift House has once again embarked on its croquet season.

The care home’s croquet matches have become an annual tradition and its residents have built a reputation as fierce opponents to any challengers.

The residents play throughout the season against teams drawn from The Whitgift Foundation’s 900 staff, as well as The Foundation’s Governors with all matches tenaciously overseen by Whitgift House’s own resident (non-partisan) referee.

At the end of July, on a beautiful afternoon, Whitgift House was delighted to welcome Yvette Hopley, the Mayor of Croydon and her Council Croquet team to its grounds. The match has become an annual fixture and it’s a great chance for our residents to meet the Mayor.

Despite being favourites, our Whitgift House team played without several star players due to them being on holiday. Regardless of this the side battled on with a weakened team, but eventually lost narrowly 14-16.
